Benjamin Schneider, Ph.D.
Senior Research Fellow

After a distinguished career in academics, most recently at the University of Maryland, Dr. Benjamin Schneider joined Valtera in 2003. His research focuses on the linkage of employee survey data with important organizational outcomes.

Dr. Schneider's research has shown that there are important consequences for an organization having the right kind of personalities in jobs. His research has also demonstrated that carefully designed strategically focused employee surveys can be linked to important organizational outcomes like customer satisfaction, loyalty and sales.

Dr. Schneider received the 2000 Scientific Contributions Award given by the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) in recognition of a lifetime of scientific contribution to the field of Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Scientific Contribution Award given by the Human Resources Division of Academy of Management for the best article published in 1998 (with Brent Smith, Sylvester Taylor, and John Fleenor), among many others. He has been elected a Fellow in the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and the Academy of Management. He has held positions such as President of the Organizational Behavior Division of the Academy of Management and President of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

An accomplished author, Dr. Schneider's book credits include Staffing Organizations, 3rd ed. (with R. Ployhart and N. Schmitt; Lawrence Erlbaum, 2006), Personality and Organizations (with D. B. Smith; Lawrence Erlbaum, 2004), Service Quality: Research Perspectives (with S. S. White; Sage Publications, 2004) and Winning the Service Game (with David E. Bowen; Harvard Business School Press, 1995).

William H. Macey, Ph.D.
CEO

Dr. William H. Macey has over 25 years of experience in consulting with organizations to design and implement survey research. His clients have included 25 of the current Fortune 100 companies.

A leader in the management and application of applied research in a wide variety of settings, Dr. Macey has developed performance appraisal and succession planning systems, developed and validated selection procedures, and designed and implemented job analysis procedures with special applications to training needs assessment, career-pathing, and personnel selection. Dr. Macey also has extensive experience in conducting individual executive assessments and in working with executives to understand assessment outcomes and to develop appropriate action plans. His current research areas include employee engagement and linkage to financial results.

Dr. Macey holds a Ph.D. in Psychology (Experimental) from Loyola University of Chicago in 1975. A past member of the editorial board of Personnel Psychology, he is a licensed Psychologist in the State of Illinois, a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, and a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP). Dr. Macey has a long-standing involvement with SIOP, and most recently was the Society's President (2001-2002).

P. Richard Jeanneret, Ph.D.
President

Dr. P. Richard Jeanneret is President of Valtera, bringing a successful history of research and consulting across a wide spectrum of industries and organizations. Prior to joining Valtera , Dr. Jeanneret was Managing Principal at Jeanneret and Associates, Inc., which merged with Valtera in 2006.

Throughout his 30-year career, Dr. Jeanneret has led projects in selection, performance appraisal, compensation, training, development, and employee retention. He has extensive experience in the practice of individual assessment, including developmental strategies and coaching, as well as evaluations that support organizational diagnosis and strategic change. Dr. Jeanneret has special expertise in workplace issues that are under investigation or in litigation, and he has provided expert counsel and testimony on over 200 matters involving employment discrimination.

Dr. Jeanneret holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Purdue University, and is a licensed psychologist in the state of Texas. He has written scholarly articles and acted as editor for industry books and journals. He co-edited the widely recognized text on individual psychological assessment focused on behavior in organizational settings.

Dr. Jeanneret is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. He received the Society’s Distinguished Professional Contributions Award for 1990, the Applied Research Award in 2002, and the Distinguished Service Contributions Award in 2005. Recently, Dr. Jeanneret chaired the committee responsible for the 4th revision to the Society’s Principles for the Validation and Use of Personnel Selection Procedures.

Karen M. Barbera, Ph.D.
Sr. Vice President and Managing Principal

With Valtera for more than ten years, Dr. Karen M. Barbera is primarily responsible for directing and executing projects in the areas of feedback systems, organizational diagnostics, and competency identification. Her extensive experience in the design and delivery of multi-rater feedback systems includes survey design, resource guide development, feedback training design and delivery, and executive coaching.

Dr. Barbera is the principal author of Valtera's training programs for conducting employee opinion and multi-rater feedback sessions. She has also developed expert systems that provide managers with individualized, narrative feedback and help them better interpret their results.

Dr. Barbera has authored and co-authored journal articles and conference presentations related to the topic of assessment. She holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Bowling Green State University and is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

Nancy T. Tippins, Ph.D.
Sr. Vice President and Managing Principal

Dr. Nancy T. Tippins brings more than 20 years of experience to Valtera. She manages the firm's development and execution of strategies related to job analysis, competency development, employee selection, assessment, and leadership development. Dr. Tippins oversees the teams that develop legally and professionally compliant tools, administrative processes, and delivery platforms to meet client staffing, assessment, and succession planning requirements. Dr. Tippins also conducts executive assessments and provides expert support in litigation.

Dr. Tippins is active in professional affairs. She has a longstanding involvement with the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) where she served as President (2000-2001). She is a fellow of SIOP and the American Psychological Association (APA) and is involved in a several private industry research groups. She has authored and co-authored numerous journal articles on assessment, and is the Associate Editor for the Scientist-Practitioner Forum of Personnel Psychology and on the Editorial Board the Journal of Applied Psychology.

Dr. Tippins received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the Georgia Institute of Technology. She holds a M.Ed. in Counseling and Psychological Services from Georgia State University.

Prior to joining Valtera, Dr. Tippins held the positions of Director of Leadership Development and Selection Methods at GTE in Irving, TX, Director of Human Resources Services at Bell Atlantic in Arlington, VA, and Research Psychologist at Exxon Company, USA in Houston, TX.

S. Morton McPhail, Ph.D.
Sr. Vice President and Managing Principal

Dr. S. Morton McPhail brings over 28 years of public and private sector consulting experience to Valtera. He is Senior Vice President and Managing Principal in charge of Valtera’s Houston regional office. Prior to joining Valtera, Dr. McPhail was Principal at Jeanneret and Associates, Inc., which merged with Valtera in 2006.

Dr. McPhail’s experience includes job analysis, selection, validation, job evaluation, performance appraisal, individual assessment, and management development. His experience has encompassed jobs ranging from public safety and law enforcement to craft and operative jobs and includes office and clerical, technical, professional, and managerial positions. He has created systems for clients ranging from selection and promotion to compensation to performance management. He has designed assessment and development programs for managers as well as competency models that cut across the entire organizational hierarchy. As part of his practice, Dr. McPhail has served as expert counsel and provided expert testimony in numerous matters of litigation, including those involving equal employment opportunity, selection, promotion, allegations of sexual harassment, and termination issues.

Dr. McPhail holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Colorado State University. He has authored many publications and presented numerous papers and symposia at professional meetings. He is a licensed psychologist in the state of Texas.

Joel Moses, Ph.D.
Senior Research Fellow

Dr. Joseph (Joel) Moses, a renowned leadership talent consultant and assessment center pioneer, joined Valtera in early 2007 as a Senior Practice Fellow. An expert in leadership identification and development, Dr. Moses offers unique insights into how to assess leaders facing today's wide array of global business challenges. His wealth of practical and professional business knowledge is sought after by researchers, practitioners, and business leaders. He has conducted leading edge research on how leaders and organizations cope with ambiguity and change. Some of his recent consulting activities have focused on helping organizations assess their bench strength as they undergo changes in their business strategy to ensure that they have the requisite leadership skills to meet future business challenges. In addition, he has served as an executive coach and advisor to many senior leaders as they transitioned into key roles. At Valtera he focuses on expanding Valtera’s Leadership Assessment and Development practice to set new global standards for assessment and coaching quality and effectiveness.

Prior to joining Valtera, Dr. Moses had more than 35 years of broad experience in executive assessment and coaching. He previously served as President and Co-founder of Applied Research Corporation, a consulting firm that delivers comprehensive assessment, coaching, transition leadership, and performance management services worldwide. In that role, he regularly consulted with major Fortune 100 corporations and professional service firms. Previously, he was Senior Corporate Psychologist and Director of the Advanced Management Potential Program at AT&T. Additionally, he has authored many articles and books, including the definitive text, Applying the Assessment Center Method. He has also served as a visiting professor at a number of American universities.

Dr. Moses has been active in professional organizations including the American Board of Professional Psychology, the American Society for Training and Development, and the Metropolitan New York Association for Applied Psychology. He is a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and is a recipient of their highest professional honor, the Distinguished Professional Practice Award.

Dr. Moses holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Baylor University in Texas, and an MBA and a B.S. from the City University of New York.
