Benchmarking & Norms

Inevitably, people ask how their own results stack up against those of others. Since 1997, Valtera has been helping clients externally benchmark their internal employee opinion survey results with normative survey data collected from employees working in many leading companies. The companies represented are from a range of industries, including insurance, financial services, automotive, food and beverage, computer, technology, retail, diverse manufacturing, airline, utility, chemical, healthcare and others.

The survey is administered by Valtera each year and contains questions commonly found on traditional employee opinion surveys as well as Valtera’s proprietary engagement items. Valtera compiles responses from the two most recent years of survey results into a set of current national norms. We can offer a number of industry cuts of these norms, and can create custom norms on an as-needed basis to meet unique needs.

Focusing on the Best and Most Admired (US Norms)

Executives want to benchmark their employee opinion survey results not against just anyone - but against the best.  Valtera's U.S. norms are created by sampling respondents from a U.S. domestic survey panel who work for firms that appear on published lists of "best" or "highly admired" companies, including the Best Companies to Work for and America's Most Admired Companies published by Fortune Magazine.

Valtera collects data during the first quarter of each calendar year to ensure that our clients have the option of a comparison that reflects current economic conditions. These norms are made available exclusively to Valtera clients.  By focusing on these “best of class” companies, Valtera is able to offer its clients an aspirational or high-performance benchmark so organizations can really see how they stack up against the best employers in the country. Valtera can also provide global benchmark data for private sector employees by country. We regularly update our norms for a selected set of countries and can supplement them if necessary to meet specific industry or country requirements.

Global Norms

Employee opinions can vary from region to region, or even country to country, and providing relevant comparisons is essential to benchmarking how results truly compare worldwide.  To provide the most accurate benchmarks possible, Valtera collects norm data for private sector employees in over 30 countries and regions in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Pacific Rim.  We have also collected customized benchmarks for clients for specific countries, content, and or industry comparisons. Our proven methodology in this area allows us to do so quickly and cost competitively, giving you the specific benchmarks that you need to drive your business forward.

The Valtera Advantage

  • Reliable data points: Since we do not rely on our clients’ data to form our norms database, we can ensure that each question is answered by a similar number of individuals. In addition, by reaching out to these top companies every year, we are able to ensure stable benchmark data that does not shift unrealistically from year to year.
  • Best of class comparisons: Though we are proud to count many of the countries’ top companies as clients, by using our normative survey approach, we are able to ensure that the quality of organizations included in the benchmark is truly best of class.
  • Current data: Because our norms survey is conducted annually, you can be sure that the comparison data in your reports is reflective of the current economic climate.
